It’s official: Samsung Galaxy Core, think of it as a downgraded GS2 that looks kind of like a GS4

The Samsung Galaxy Core is a device that was leaked late last month in Russia. Today it’s been officially announced. Here are the numbers you need to know: 4.3 inch 800 x 480 pixel LCD, 1.2 GHz dual core processor (unknown vendor), 1 GB of RAM, 5 megapixel camera, and 1,800 mAh battery.

So how should you feel about this device? As my headline suggests, it’s basically a Galaxy S II, but with slightly inferior specs, inside a body that looks like Samsung’s 2013 flagship smartphone. Samsung being Samsung, pricing wasn’t mentioned, so it’s hard to say whether or not this device is worth your time and attention.

When does the Core ship? This month, in both dual SIM and single SIM configurations. What other Samsung devices should you consider instead of the Core? If you can, buy yourself a Galaxy S II Plus. It’s the Galaxy S II from 2011, except with less internal storage and a newer version of Android. If you really want to save money, then just buy a used GS2 and a new battery.

If you can wait, then I suggest keeping your wallet shut until the GS4 Mini comes out in July.
